Hi there, I’m Vicky, the creative mind behind all the wonderful things you see on this page. What inspired my journey? After spending six years in North Carolina, I told my husband, who was in the military, that it was time to return to our roots in Jemez Springs. With that decision, I decided to embark on a homesteading adventure. We started with chickens, then added goats, ducks, and quail to our little farm! I’m also the proud mom of two amazing kids who certainly keep life interesting! What sparked my interest in food preservation? Food preservation is a cherished tradition in my family that has been passed down through generations. Many recipes I use were handed down to me, while others I’ve created myself. My Auntie Angie is my greatest teacher, and I fondly remember watching her and my grandma canning food throughout my childhood. Making everything from jams to salsas to pickles is a beautiful way to honor my grandmother’s memory, and I ensure that each jar I create is infused with love and nostalgia. That’s what makes it truly special. Why donuts, you ask? Baked goods and home-cooked meals were a staple in my upbringing, thanks to my mom and grandma. From my mom’s delicious arroz con leche to the famous Texas sheet cake and my grandma’s cherry pie, I felt compelled to carry on that legacy, so I started my own by making donuts! What about gardening and raising my own meat? Gardening runs deep in my family history, with my grandparents tending to their own gardens and apple orchards, while my grandpa Rudy raises sheep for meat. It’s important to me to continue these traditions and keep them alive. So there you have it! Now you know a bit about who I am and what drives my passion. I’m thrilled to have you along on this journey with me! Oh and shout out to my sister for pushing me and telling me I can do it 🙌 and my husband for putting up with me and all the animals he didn’t know he needed 🫣
